Eligibility criteria and details of the format in which the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2013 for admission to engineering colleges will be held across the country were announced on 9th ,November 2012. The examination will be conducted by the CBSE .
The date of JEE (Main)-2013 examination has also been announced. The date of offline examination is April 7, 2013 while online examination will be held between April 8, 2013 and April 25, 2013. The details announced are important for students of Gujarat as GujCET has been replaced by JEE-(Main). Earlier, students seeking admission to engineering colleges in the state had to appear in GujCET, AIEEE, GUJCET and other entrance examinations.
Now, however, they will have to appear in JEE (Main) and the marks scored in this examination will count for 50% of the score needed for admission. The other 50% marks will be based on their score in the Class 12 board examination.
JEE (Main) is also compulsory for admission to NIT, IIIT and other engineering colleges. But IIT aspirants will have to appear in another examination after IIT (Main) — the IIT (Advance) examination.It is to be noted that marks scored by aspirants in JEE (Main) will decide 60% of the marks needed for admission to the NITs and the IIITs, and their score in Class 12 board examination will be the basis for the rest 40% marks.The IIT (Advance) examination for admission to the IITs and some other technical institutes will be held after IIT (Main) examination. The top 1,50,000 students of IIT (Main) will be eligible to appear in the IIT (Advance) exam. They should also be among the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 board exams conducted by their respective states.
Other details about the IIT (Main) examination announced on Friday include eligibility requirement regarding date of birth. Aspirants must have been born on or after October 01, 1988 to be eligible for IIT (Main) examination. Further, aspirants should have passed their Class 12 exam or any other qualifying examination in 2011 or 2012. Those who are appearing in their Class 12 exam or any other qualifying examination in 2013 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Main)-2013 examination.
Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has claimed that Gujarat board students will not face any problems in JEE (Main) as the examination will have the same pattern as the AIEEE that was held earlier.Every year approximately 50,000 students from Gujarat used to appear in AIEEE for admission to engineering colleges in the state, sources at GSHSEB said. Hence, a majority of the students are familiar with to the examination pattern. Further, students will also have the option to take JEE (Main) in Gujarati language, the sources added
